Jane H McCann

Jane McCann of Sebring, OH died on January 20, 2026. She was born at the end of 1940 in Laconia, NH to C. Foster Harry and Florence Grove Harry, as the middle child of three daughters. Jane attended Manchester High School before studying at Dickinson College and graduating with her degree in English in 1962. Jane married and started a family in the Boston area, raising her two daughters in Hingham MA.

Jane had a passion for books and reading, and all her jobs involved the written word. She was an editor for a text book company, worked for a publishing company, and as publisher for an architecture magazine. In her 40s, she went back to school to study Library Sciences at North Carolina Central University. After earning her Master's Degree, she achieved her lifelong dream of working as a librarian. After retiring, she and her husband moved to Sebring, Ohio.

Jane first began exhibiting symptoms of multiple sclerosis when she was just 16 years old, but was not formally diagnosed for another ten years. She was, however, not one to be deterred by a poor prognosis, and did not allow MS to stop her from doing anything she had set her mind to- having children, getting her masters degree, becoming head librarian for the county. Hers was a tale of continual adaptations; as the disease took abilities away from her, she simply found new ways to do things, so that she never felt sorry for herself and never had to give up.

Jane enjoyed countless deep, decades-long friendships, as well as cats, birdwatching, and traveling. She was an avid book lover, with a particular fondness for books that had been overlooked by others. She loved to play games and she usually won- especially with word games. Jane will always be remembered for her sharp intellect, her thoughtfulness, her relentlessly sunny disposition, and her tenacity. Even when illness kept her mostly confined to her bed, her kindness and positive outlook endured. She radiated warmth and compassion, which drew people to her throughout her entire life.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Robert Lovinger, and her second husband Robert McCann. She is survived by her two sisters, Evelyn Hopkins and Kathryn Demby, many nieces and nephews, and her two daughters, Margot Lovinger of Eugene, OR and Joanna Lovinger of Los Angeles, CA, and her granddaughters Elliot Walter and Alice Lovinger, who will all miss her terribly.
