Evelyn G Hughes, a cherished member of her community, mother, grandmother and sister passed away on February 9, 2026, in Salem, Ohio. Born on April 23, 1937, in Alliance, Ohio, Evelyn's life was defined by her unwavering dedication to her family, her career, and her passions.
Throughout her tenure as Food Service Director, Evelyn made a lasting impact on the students and staff at Sebring Local Schools, ensuring that meals were not only nutritious but also a source of comfort and joy. Her dedication to service was a reflection of her caring nature, and many will remember her for her warm smile and encouraging words.
Evelyn deeply cherished her time spent with her family. She is survived by her son Scott (Sue) Hughes. Evelyn was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Carrie, Erika, Robin, Andrea, Megan, Hilary, and Travis, and she delighted in the company of her ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her passion for family extended to spending time outdoors in her garden, where she found joy, peace, and the beauty of nature.
In addition to her immediate family, Evelyn is survived by her sister Linda (Bob) Menegay, sister-in-law Gretchen Hughes, who she considered her best friend and partner in crime, who remained a steadfast companion throughout her life.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lorin and Pauline (Strain) Stoffer, her husband Wilbur Hughes in January of 2021, and her daughter Mary Beth Gooding.
