Jane McKinney, age 98, passed away peacefully in her home in Holland, Michigan, on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Katherine, Mary (Rubin), Tom, Karen (Chris), and Helen (David), and by her grandson, Thomas. She is preceded in death by her husband Harry, her dog Lady, her son John, her parents, her twin John Dennis ("Twino"), and her other five siblings.
Jane graduated from Chickasha High School in Oklahoma where she competed on the girls' tennis team, winning a state championship in doubles. She attended Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas, where she earned her bachelor's degree in English and pursued her love of writing. After college, she was a reporter for the Chickasha Daily Express. In 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, Harry McKinney, and they began their journey together, raising a family. After the family moved to Michigan, she was a reporter for the Towne Courier. She went on to become the Public Relations Director for East Lansing Public Schools, retiring after 17 years. Jane's passion has always been the written word, publishing 9 books, including poetry, family stories, and a children's book.
Jane was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, twin, and aunt. She touched the lives of all whom she met. Those who knew her will always remember her loving smile and warm heart. She was an inspiration to all and will be greatly missed.
A joy-filled celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at St. Peter's Catholic Church D, 100 St. Peters Dr. Douglas, Michigan, 49406. Lunch will be provided afterward by the Tender Hearts in the church cafeteria.
