Jane Ann McVey, age 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at her home in Malta, NY, surrounded by the love and warmth of her devoted family.
Born on June 12, 1940, in Pleasantville, NJ, Jane was the cherished daughter of the late George and Edna (Meder) Metzger. Jane was a lifelong learner with a deep appreciation for reading, history, storytelling, and the simple beauty of everyday life. She believed in the power of knowledge and connection and shared those gifts freely with those around her.
On October 14, 1961, she married the love of her life, Bruce A. McVey, with whom she shared 63 years of enduring partnership. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and support. Jane dedicated much of her life to being a homemaker, raising their two sons with boundless care and intention. Her love and guidance formed the foundation of a strong, close-knit family and remain her greatest legacy.
Jane had a deep love for travel and adventure. She found joy in the majestic landscapes of Alaska and Denali State Park, visiting wineries in the Finger Lakes, Cruises to the sunny Caribbean Islands, the southern charm of Savannah, Georgia, and the peaceful traditions of Point Sebago, Maine, where this year would have marked her 50th summer. She also treasured camping trips with family and friends, where time spent under the stars sipping wine and around the fire became lifelong memories.
In addition to her devotion to her family, Jane was an active and passionate member of her community. For over 20 years, she served many roles for the Spotlighter's Theater Group at the Malta Community Center - a place that brought her immense pride and joy. Theater was her creative home, and she played a vital part in bringing countless productions to life with care, organization, and unwavering dedication.
She also partnered with Frog Park Herbs, creating and selling her handmade herbal products at local craft fairs. Her work reflected her creativity, nature, and her love for connecting with others. For more than two decades, she organized the talent shows at the Saratoga County Fair, nurturing performers and creating a welcoming space for community celebration.
Jane is survived by her loving husband, Bruce A. McVey; her sons, Scott McVey and Michael McVey (Cherie Janik); and her beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Kourtney, Isabelle, and Hannah Janik. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose love and influence will be felt for generations to come. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
