Jane Anne Pendgraft, 84, of Sterling, formerly of Polo, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at her home.
Jane was born on December 26, 1939, in Sterling to Howard and Dorothy (Huntley) Johnson. She was then adopted by Fred and Ruth (Johnson) Black. Jane married George S. Pendgraft on April 12, 1959, at the First Christian Church in Rock Falls; he preceded her in death on February 16, 2007.
Jane graduated from Sterling High School in 1958. She worked at CGH Medical Center as a medical transcriptionist; worked as an office manager for Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon; and held secretarial roles for the nursing home in Polo and Polo Church of the Brethren, retiring in 2009. Jane was a member of East Jordan United Methodist Church.
Later in life, Jane spent her time as a homemaker and farm wife, helping her husband George with their family farm in Polo which they farmed for over 50 years. Prior to starting their family, Jane and George loved boating and motorcycle riding. Jane's pride and joy were her grandchildren, Drew and Lauren, with whom she loved spoiling and traveling. She never allowed her family to leave her home without something-whether it be a beautifully crafted quilt, baked treat, or a cat. Jane had a giving heart and was always putting her family first.
She is also preceded in death by both sets of parents, a daughter, Kathryn, and sisters, Nancy Pierce, Barbara Fields, Lois Dowding, and Mary Ellen Clary.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Debra Pendgraft of Sterling; grandchildren, Drew (Jennie) Roalkvan of NE, and Lauren Roalkwan of AZ; great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Jackson, and Wyatt; brother, Howard (Virginia) Helm of Mt. Carroll; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved her dearly.
Graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Oak Knoll Memorial Park with Celebrant Kenzie Suhr officiating. Arrangement have entrusted to the McDonald Funeral Homes.
Memorial contributions may be directed to East Jordan United Methodist Church-Sterling, IL.
