Jane Ratcliff

MECCA – Jane Ellen Ratcliff, 72, of Mecca, Indiana, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, in Rockville.

She was born January 1, 1954, in Clinton, Indiana, to Leroy Ratcliff and Maxine Lientz Ratcliff. Jane was proudly known as the first baby born in the hospital that year, a fact she often shared with a smile.

Jane retired from Inland Container after many years of dedicated employment.

She is survived by one sister, Virginia Taylor of Montezuma; two nieces, Tessa Ratcliff of Rockville and Libby Mathas of Veedersburg; one nephew, Bobby Mathas of Montezuma; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, whom she adored. Jane was a devoted and proud aunt who loved watching her nieces' and nephews' sporting events and cheering them on.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Tammy Ratcliff and Pamela Sue Ratcliff; and two brothers, Ronnie Ratcliff and Joe Ratcliff.

Jane was an avid sports enthusiast and was especially well known for her many years of playing and coaching softball. She proudly shared stories of the days when she had the opportunity to play against some of the original Rockford Peaches, later made famous by the movie A League of Their Own. That accomplishment remained a point of great pride for her throughout her life. She was also a devoted basketball and football fan.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at the Montezuma Independent Baptist Church, with Pastor Keith B. McIntyre officiating, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
