Jane Shumate, age 101, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025. She was born October 21, 1923, in Moberly, Missouri, to Sigsbee and Maude (Parrish) Holder and attended school in Holliday, Missouri. Jane married Sam Shumate in Salina, Kansas, on June 26, 1947. Jane worked and raised a family in Bloomfield, Iowa, before moving to Ames in 1995. She and Sam were blessed to spend many winters in Mesa, Arizona, among family and new friends.

Jane was the backbone of her family, taught her children and grandchildren many great life lessons and always encouraged them to pursue their dreams.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Sam; an infant son; two siblings, Chester Holder and Betty Wallace; a son-in-law Ron Fosse; a daughter-in-law Mari Shumate; a step granddaughter, and a step great grandson.

Left to cherish her memory are children Betty Fosse of Ames; Jack (Anne) Shumate of Mesa, Arizona; and Mark Shumate of Nashville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren, and six step great grandchildren.

The family thanks the staff at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Independence Village and Green Hills Health Care in Ames for the great care they provided.

Inurnment will take place at the Glenwood Cemetery in Missouri. According to Jane's wishes, a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
