Jane Ellen Startz

Groton - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jane Ellen (Tabor) Startz of Groton, who entered her final resting place Dec. 12, 2025, peacefully at home beside her loving husband.

Born Sept. 22, 1943, in Charleston, S.C., Jane was the daughter of the late Clifford and Norma Tabor. She was also predeceased by her brother, Clifford Tabor Jr.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Robert Startz of Groton; three children, Sharon Elizabeth Startz of Norwich, David Startz of New London, and Bruce Startz and his wife Laurie of Ledyard; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Anderson, Dana Gladstone and her partner Kurt Delaney, Robin Gladstone, Adam Gladstone, Brooke (Startz) Mergy and her husband Caius Mergy, Cassandra Jane Startz and her partner John Worobey, Alex Rapp and Adam Rapp; and two great-grandchildren, Rowan Clesowich-Gladstone and baby Eden Mergy; as well her beloved dog, Buddy.

Jane worked most of her career as a human resources administrator at Arwood Corporation in Groton. She took tremendous pride in her work and made a lasting impact on those she served. She was a dedicated member of the Old Mystic and Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Churches, where she found warmth and joy in her church communities.

Jane was a warrior who battled multiple illnesses over the years. She was small in stature, but large in life and perseverance. She was truly an inspiration and loved unconditionally, especially her children and grandchildren. Her marriage to her husband, Robert, was an incredible example of true love and devotion. Her legacy will certainly have a lasting impact on her family and the numerous lives she touched.

The family would like to recognize the staff and community at Solstice in Groton, for their love and support.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 10, 2026, at Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church, 1241 Poquonnock Road, Groton. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church.
