Jane Royce Taube, 86, of Marquette, died peacefully Wednesday evening, May 3, 2023 at the Norlite Nursing Center with her loving family at her side.
Jane was born on April 22, 1937 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, an only child born to the late Carl and Melva (Florence) Royce. She attended Lincoln grade school in Munising and graduated from Mather High School in 1955.
The following year, Jane married her high school sweetheart, Sten Taube, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. Together they returned to Norfolk, Virginia where they started their family. A series of moves followed; returning to Michigan, then to Georgia, Indiana, Alabama and finally to Marquette, MI in 1967 when Sten accepted a position at NMU.
Jane was formerly employed for a time at Chevie's News in Munising. She worked part time in NMU's bookstore for over 15 years, but her love was being a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her lasagna became a family staple. Her cakes, pies and cookies were always a favorite. So much so, that when she took a golfing course at NMU, from Tom Izzo, she earned an "A" mainly because of the homemade cookies she brought in for him.
Jane loved to travel. International trips included Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, Costa Rica, England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, a Rhine River cruise from Switzerland to Holland and an Alaskan cruise. In addition, Jane visited 49 of the 50 states, missing only Delaware. She enjoyed wintering for 19 years in Panama City Beach, Florida. She also enjoyed crafts, knitting, crocheting, ceramics, quilting and reading. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette.
Jane was a quiet, gentle, loving, giving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all of us. Jane is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, Sten Taube; four children, Sharon (Mike) Farrell of Marquette, Scott (Laura) Taube of Leland, NC, Steven (Sandy) Taube of Leland, NC and Sabrina Taube of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, Cavan (Darcie) Farrell, Cashel (Derek) Rabitaille, Travis (Sylvia) Taube, Alexandra (Ben) Riemer, Samantha Taube, Sten J. Taube, and Steffan (Holly) Taube; also four great grandchildren, Mallory Farrell, Maverick Taube, Selina Taube and Matthew Rabitaille.
A family graveside service will be held on Monday, May 15th at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising with Rev. Molly Eversoll of Messiah Lutheran Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Jane's passing, kindly consider donating to the Peter White Public Library, 217 N. Front St., Marquette, MI 49855 in her memory.
