Jane A. Workmeister, 79, formerly of Cumberland, passed away on January 18, 2022 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Born March 6, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Archie C. Allgire and Agnes L. Bremner.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Kathryn ("Katie") Shearon, and husband James, Pittsburgh, PA, and grandsons Samuel and J. Lincoln Shearon, Pittsburgh, PA, sister Claudia Zimmerman, and brother-in-law, Chuck Zimmerman, Perry, GA, brother-in-law William E. Jackson, Macon, GA, and sister-in-law Judy Workmeister, Cumberland, MD, and various nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lynn H. Workmeister.
Jane grew up as an "Army brat," and lived in Georgia, North Carolina, Japan, and Germany before her family eventually settled in Westminster, MD.
She is a 1960 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School in Union Bridge, MD. She earned a bachelor's degree in Economics from Western Maryland College in 1964, serving as the May Queen her senior year.
Jane worked in Baltimore as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service and also for the Social Security Administration. She returned with her husband Lynn to his hometown of Cumberland in 1967.
Jane was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She was part of the needle-pointers' work group and helped create the needlepoint designs that were displayed on the kneelers at the altar rail.
She delivered Meals on Wheels for Memorial Hospital and for The Western Maryland Health System for 30 years. She also volunteered at The Gilchrist Museum, which she enjoyed greatly.
Her hobbies included dollhouse miniatures, needlepointing, gardening, stained glass, antique collecting, biking, and sailing. Jane and her husband Lynn raced their Flying Scott sailboat for 17 years. Their 35 year membership at The Deep Creek Yacht Club- Turkey Neck led them to make many lifelong friends.
Jane was the most loving, cheerful, classy lady you could ever meet. Spending time with her was an absolute joy. She dearly loved those around her, and she will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family.
A funeral service at Emmanuel Episcopal Church is being planned for the spring.
