Janell Devall Dillard, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the age of 78. Janell was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on February 27, 1947, daughter of the late John and Eula Percle Devall.
Janell’s life was characterized by her unwavering love for her family. She adored her grandchildren and their activities, never missing a game.
A faithful member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Janell’s warmth and compassion extended far beyond her immediate family. She was known for her generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand, and her kindness resonated with all who were fortunate enough to know her. An avid lover of nature, Janell found solace among animals, trees, and beautiful landscapes, often expressing her artistic side through oil painting. Her passion for antiques and home design brought her immense joy as she collaborated lovingly with her husband on their family home.
Janell is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Dillard; parents John Howard Devall and Eula Lee Percle Devall; daughter, Debie Dillard Smith; and sister, Carol Devall Hurst.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Legendre (Mark); grandchildren, Blake Burley (Jeff), Hayes Legendre (Sarah), Zach Legendre (Hailey), Daniel Legendre (Elizabeth), and William Smith; great-grandchildren, Brooks and Beckham Burley and Ashton and Jolie Legendre; sisters, DeAnna Brown and Peggy Jordan; niece, DeEtte Burns; and nephews, Ricky, Todd and Rhett Shaffett, and Brian Brown.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Stephanie Chastain with Compassus, as well as the staff at Clarity Hospice, especially Michelle, for their unwavering love and support.
The family would like to invite all who knew and loved Janell to join them as we commemorate her life. A visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., in Baton Rouge, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 12:30 PM until funeral services at 2:30 PM.
