Janet Callahan Barnes, of Brighton, MI passed away peacefully at her home in the morning hours of Tuesday, May 21, 2024. She was 76 years old.
Janet was born on May 12, 1948, in Ferndale, MI, and grew up on Sylvan Lake in Waterford Township. Janet shared 33 wonderful years of marriage and friendship with her devoted husband, Ray Barnes. A woman of unwavering faith, Janet was an active member at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Brighton for three decades. Her dedication to her community extended beyond her church involvement, as she was known for her friendly demeanor and approachable nature, making her a cherished friend to all who knew her.
In her professional life, Janet excelled as an appellate lawyer at Secrest-Wardle Law firm in Oakland County, MI, until her retirement in 2010. Her passion for the Detroit Tigers and Michigan State Spartans football and basketball teams was evident to all who knew her. Janet's zest for life was further demonstrated through her love of travel with Ray, exploring the world together, and indulging in the art of Japanese flower arranging as a cherished hobby. Janet's warm personality, easygoing nature, and genuine interest in others will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.
She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Ray E. Barnes; her step-children, Scott (Jalayne) Barnes, Kristin Barnes and Greg Barnes; her step-grandchildren, Brandon and Aidan Barnes; her brothers, Glenn Pascoe and Ken Pascoe as well as many close friends and extended family members.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 4:00PM - 7:00PM at Lynch & Sons, 600 E. Main St., Brighton, MI 48116.
Funeral Services from St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 200 W. St. Paul St, Brighton on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:00AM with gathering beginning at 10:00AM. The Rev. Jeanne Hansknecht to officiate. Burial will take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 10:30AM.
