Janet was born September 17, 1938 in Tracy, Iowa, to Ethel (Kingery) and Noel D. Chambers. She left this world July 26, 2025 surrounded by family. The Chambers family moved to a farm just outside Pleasantville in March 1941. There she grew up with her sisters and brother: Carol Lee, Shirley, David, Joyce and Mary.
Janet was baptized at an early age in Knoxville. She lived her life following Jesus’ commandment, “Love others as I have loved you.” She was involved in Sunday School, lead women’s groups, and wrote many Christmas pageants.
Janet graduated from Pleasantville schools in 1956. After graduation, she worked for the state of Iowa, then worked for Meredith Publishing, Pleasantville State Bank and Simpson College. Janet enjoyed gardening, raising livestock and everything outside.
Janet married James Martin on May 4, 1957. Together they started their family in Sandyville and moving to rural Indianola in 1964. They were blessed with four children: Lyndi Su, Cyndi Lu, David Martin, James Royal.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; sister Shirley; brother David, and daughter Lyndi Su. Those left to remember her : husband, James Martin; children: Cyndi Lu, David Martin, and, James Royal, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Appalachian Ministry Project.
