Thomas Eugene Adreon was born September 8, 1945 in Boone, Iowa the son of Robert “Bob” Elwood Adreon and Elizabeth “Betty” (Shaw) Adreon.
Tom attended high school in Eddyville during which time he was a standout athlete in baseball, football and basketball. He also competed in rodeos and was named “all around rodeo cowboy”. This is when he lassoed Marilyn in to be his girlfriend. On December 27, 1963 Tom was united in marriage to Marilyn Mitrisin. He attended William Penn University earning a B.A. degree and Iowa State University (Go Hawks!) , earning a Master’s degree. Tom and Marilyn moved to Pleasantville in 1969 where Tom served as the Industrial Arts teacher until his retirement in 2001. During those years, Tom coached varsity baseball and junior varsity basketball and football. He later served on the Pleasantville school board to continue his support of the school. Additionally, in 1994 Tom founded Adreon Developing and constructed townhomes and other residential projects in the area. Recently in a conversation with Rich, Tom said he had constructed over 50 homes in the area.
In his spare time, Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. He was a great cook and enjoyed gardening, canning and baking. He loved Pleasantville sports, especially any activity his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in. Never one to miss a deal, he kept his eyes peeled for yellow tag meat items at Walmart to whip up his next meal. Another great joy were his annual fishing trips to Canada with family and friends, Tom often quipped that in total “I spent over 2 years of my life in Canada”. Above all else he was the loyal and proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather (Gramps), sibling and friend to his cherished loved ones.
Tom passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 80 years.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Alan; parents, Bob and Betty; son, Brent Allen and great-grandchild, Riggens. May they rest in peace.
Those left to honor Tom’s amazing legacy include his loving wife of 61 years, Marilyn; children: Rob (Ginny) Adreon and Lynette (Paul) Gordon; grandchildren: Kirsten (Ty) Furnal, Kenlyn (Josh) Balk, Konner (Colton) Furnal, Zebulun and Caleb; great-grandchildren: Tenley, Lawson, Bridger, Eloise, Henslie, Oakes and another due in February; siblings: Jan Fontana, Barb (Ron) Avery, Gary (Tammie) Adreon, Teresa (Kevin) Bauer, Rich (Dana) Thomas, Dan Adreon and Ron (Tracy) Adreon and many other family members and friends.
