Janet Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home on Jan. 14, 2026.
Janet Louise Marks Brown, a cherished soul and beacon of love in her community, was born on June 14, 1964, in Paris, Kentucky, and went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2026, in Lexington, Kentucky. Janet was a devout Christian who deeply loved her Lord and Savior. She exemplified the love of Christ in every aspect of her life, always extending kindness and generosity to those around her.

Janet graduated from high school in her hometown and quickly found her calling in healthcare. She dedicated a combined 33 years of heartfelt service as a phlebotomist at St. Joseph Hospital and as a CNA at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Her compassion and skill made a significant impact, touching countless lives with her gentle care.

A long-standing member of the First Baptist Church in Paris, KY, where she was on the Usher Board and Janet's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. Her involvement with the church community went beyond just attendance; she exemplified the fruits of the Spirit, always present and active in her faith through service, fellowship, and leadership.

Family was the center of Janet's world. She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Brown; her children, LaJuana (Jaime Covington) Marks and Eddie (Amy Avila) Marks; her endearing eleven grandchildren, Juan'yea, Xavier, Christian, Charles Thomas, Eddie II, DaShone, Kiara, Mia, Andrew, Layla, and Alexander; four devoted brothers, Jeffery Strawder, Kirk Strawder, James (Dina) Marks, Jonathan (Jessica) Marks; and three caring sisters, Michelle (Bradley) Hutsell, Shanda (Greg) Conners, and Jenice (Michael) Jackson; one aunt, Cynthia Trudell and a special friend, Wilma Wingate. A cherished aunt and cousin, she will fondly be remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She now rejoins in Heaven her parents, James and Wanda Dorsey Strawder Marks; her brother, Eric Strawder; and her dear grandparents, Carrie Alice Evans and Ada and John Russell Smarr. The family would also like to acknowledge the love from the Taylor-Ashley-Brown Family.

Janet's hobbies were a reflection of her nurturing spirit. She had a love for sewing, creating beautiful pieces for her family and friends. She was also renowned for her exceptional baking skills, with her cakes and pies being the centerpiece of many family gatherings. Janet's love for crafts and event coordination was known across her sphere of influence, often bringing people together to celebrate life's special moments.

In remembrance of Janet Louise Marks Brown, we honor a life well-lived, marked by her kind, thoughtful, and loving nature. Her legacy of warmth and unwavering faith will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her. As she enters the Kingdom of Heaven, we take solace knowing that her spirit continues to shine brightly in all the lives she so beautifully touched.
