Janet M. Carr, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on April 2, 1949, in Monroe, Michigan, she was the cherished daughter of William F. Plath and Bernice Plath (nee Brackett), who predeceased her.
Janet dedicated her life to her family and community, and her proudest achievement was being a mother to her two children, Laura and Steven Carr. She was a loving grandmother to her grandsons, Andrew Carr and Conner Arendt, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. Janet is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Jeanann (Lawrence) AuBuchon, William B. (Diane) Plath, Barbara (Henry) Denney, and John Plath, along with many nieces, nephews, and their families. Janet was also a loving "mother" to her cat, Samuel, who will miss her dearly.
Affectionately known as Jan, she had an extraordinary talent for baking, and her kitchen was a place where love was kneaded into every dish. From her famous Swedish Tea Ring to her delightful Christmas cookies, she shared her baked goods with friends and family, filling hearts and homes with warmth.
Beyond her baking talents, Janet was a gifted seamstress. She created beautiful clothing for herself and her children, sewing dresses for special occasions and even crafting her daughter’s wedding dress. Her creativity extended to making American Girl doll clothes for her great nieces, a testament to her caring nature and her desire to bring happiness to those around her.
In her forties, Janet pursued her educational dreams and earned a master’s degree in Social Work. This accomplishment allowed her to give back to her community, as she facilitated a coping with depression workshop at St Paul Lutheran Church, where she was an active member. The church community also played a significant role in her life, with its staff providing unwavering support and friendship, which the family deeply appreciates.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the medical team at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, Aerius Health Center, and Advisacare Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days. Janet's legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will be cherished by all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, as they remember the warmth of her smile and the joy she brought to their lives.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Janet to Multiple Sclerosis Association of American, American Heart Association, or Woodhaven and Trenton Animal Shelter.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 20, from 3pm until 8pm at the Trenton Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes. A funeral service will begin at 7pm that same evening.
