Janet Elaine (Alexander) Coleman, 77, passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family, following a long and complicated illness.
Janet was born in Marion Ohio, the middle child of Roger (Jake) and Delma (Fern) Alexander. She graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1966. Janet married Bill Coleman on October 10, 1986 in Marion and stepped immediately into the role of mother to Bill's children, who had lost their mother two years earlier.
Bill and Janet made the most of every day they had together. They traveled countless miles as Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavaliers and Ohio State season ticket holders, went to Arizona and Florida for spring training, and enjoyed numerous vacations with and without the kids. They enjoyed time at Lake Erie but also enjoyed finding new places to visit and new things to see and do. Frequent trips to different garden nurseries around Ohio were a favorite pastime and they truly enjoyed their scenic backyard. They were each other's best friend and they never had a harsh word for each other. They had a truly beautiful love story, in sickness and in health.
Janet was the most loving, selfless and patient mother. Her children were fortunate she chose to raise them as her own. Her acts of maternal kindness, such as caring for her son during cancer treatment or helping her daughter navigate marriage and motherhood, will be always be missed.
Janet worked the majority of her career at Fahey Bank. She retired in 2007, two years before stepping into her favorite role as "Nanny." Janet and Bill cherished the many days spent with their granddaughter, Emery. They showered her with love and affection and gave her a world full of imagination and adventure, arts and crafts, fishing, baking, gardening, marching-all made complete with warmed towels at bathtime. Any available spot on the walls of Janet and Bill's home prior to 2009 is now covered with a photo of Emery. Janet was the best grandmother any little girl could ever want.
Janet dearly loved anything related to Christmas. She had an extensive collection of Santas, most left on display year-round. Janet's favorite place to visit was Frankenmuth, Michigan and she took numerous trips with her husband. In the late 90s, she began taking an annual girls' trip with her daughter and, later, her granddaughter. Her last trip was in October to celebrate Emery's Sweet Sixteen.
Janet's passing leaves a void that will forever be felt by her husband, Bill, children Amy (Brent) Gorenflo and Andrew Coleman, granddaughter Emery Gorenflo, numerous nieces and nephews, and her faithful canine friend, Matty. In addition to her parents, Janet is proceeded in death by her sister, Karen Sperry and brother, David Alexander.
In accordance with Janet's wishes, there will be no visitation. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 12, 2025 at Snyder Funeral Home, Denzer Chapel 360 E. Center St.
Marion, Ohio for family and friends at 1 PM with Chaplain Erika Snyder officiating. A Graveside Service will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery.
