Janet Margaret Gayle was born at Community Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey. She was one of 4 children birthed by John Camillus Gayle and Virginia Alice Tascoe Gayle.
Janet went to Montclair High School and went on to work for Bell Telephone Company, which later became Verizon. During that time she married Benjamin Warren Jackson, from whom she had her only son Warren David. Seeing as how perfection is very difficult to repeat, Warren remained the only child of Janet and Ben. The couple would divorce however, and in later years Janet would meet John Curtis Jr. whom she married on November 10th,1983. Janet retired from Bell Telephone in 1992, and after which she and John began to travel often. She visited places within the U. S. like South Carolina and Florida,as well as places outside of the country like St. Thomas and Aruba. And even after John's unfortunate passing she continued to travel with her friend and sidekick Delores Mumford. Janet was also a true advocate of health and well being. For exercise she walked daily, and would make smoothies made of fruits and vegetables all the way up to her remaining days. But although she was andvocate for health, she had a sweetooth that she dared not deny! She made the best brownies you'd ever tasted, and her holiday egg nog was always a treat that the entire family looked forward to! She was subtle, quiet and calm but if she was disturbed by someone or something, she was strong, steadfast, fierce and determined. In December of 2023, Janet fell down her basement steps and fractured her leg. She went to the hospital and 2 different physical therapy homes before coming home to continue physical therapy there. She was determined NOT to be confined to a wheelchair or walker so at 85 years old she pushed herself to get better. And by the fall of 2024, Janet was out exercising and walking again!
Determined,
Steadfast,
And strong. And this was also true of her love of God and his healing power.
And that was Janet Curtis.
She will join her younger brother Lonnie Lynnwood Gayle in heaven and leave behind her son Warren, her granddaughter Brianna, her great grandson Isaiah, her godsons Kyle Christopher Gayle and Curt Davis, her brother and sister Robert and Ann, her half-sister Lori Gayle Myers, her sisters in love Ellen Gayle and Lovette Drusilla Vaughn Gayle, and her best friends Delores Mumford, Ethel Williams and Janet Davis and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
We will all miss you dearly
