Janet Dew Obituary
On Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, in Wytheville, Virginia, Janet Dew passed through the veil of death and entered Eternal Life. Beside her was her husband of 34 years and her beloved dog Bailee, who kept a constant vigil. Janet was born in Florence, Alabama to Juanita and Brandon Hale. She attended the Florence City Schools and graduated from Coffee High School in 1965. After attending Auburn University, she worked for British Petroleum, Delta Airlines, and the Xerox Corporation. While working in Birmingham, Alabama, Janet met her future husband, Stephen Douglas Dew, and they were married on Sept. 13, 1980, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Florence. Janet and Steve have enjoyed living and working in many cities from the East to the West Coast as Steve served in the Navy and afterwards. Janet is survived by her husband, Stephen Dew, of Wytheville, Virginia: her brother, Brad Hale (Sara); her nieces, Elizabeth Harris (Jamie), Caroline Campbell (Ben), and Laura Grote (Travis); and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Jackson, Emma, Sara, Jacob, Jonathan and Andrew, all of Birmingham, Alabama. Janet loved the Lord and was a faithful member of United Lutheran Church where her husband is pastor. Janet found great joy in reading and studying the Bible, praying for those she loved, and spending time with her family and friends. Janet was especially close to her brother, Brad, and his family. Janet loved each of them unconditionally and expressed her love by spending special time with each of them and sharing all the important milestones in their lives. A special thank you to Mary Jane Stone, her dear friend, who helped Steve care for Janet during her battle with pancreatic cancer and who was there with her as she moved into Eternal Life and to her many life-long friends and friends from their church who have encouraged and supported her on her journey. The soul of the bravest person her husband Steve ever knew is now in heaven.
There will be a visitation at United Lutheran Church in Crockett, Virginia from 1:30 until 3 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 17, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. also at United.

Janet was a childhood friend of mine..Several of our mothers would get-together to cook and have fun socializing with each other, while all of the young people were playing outside. I remember when her Dad, Brandon fell dead and how tragic that loss was for her, Juanita and Brad. Mom and Juanita remained friends and after Juanita remarried some years later our parents continued to be friends through the years. I lost touch with Janet after high school, but we reconnected on FB a couple of years ago and I was so glad to hear about her life. I was so very sorry to learn of her journey through cancer and I had hope she would overcome that terrible disease, as God has allowed me to do. She showed great strength and never seemed to give up her courageous fight to get well. She inspired me and others with her faith and her will to live. May she rest in peace. Lord, please be with all of her family throughout their grief.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Janet we shared the same aunt (Nettie Downing) and I know that she thought the world of Janet and Brad and talked about them both alot. Met her in passing at the Downing home sometimes and my brother Robert Downing went to Coffee with her. May she rest in peace.
