Janet was born on November 29, 1953, to Robert Matthews and Laura Lee Sattler in Elberton, Georgia. She married Waymon Dowdy Sr. on June 1, 1972, in Elberton, Georgia. Janet had a love for children and owned a Day Care Center. She loved to sew, cooking, gospel music and housekeeping. Janet enjoyed a long car drive and sang in school choir. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her spouse; Waymond Dowdy, Sr. of the home, daughter; Denise Dowdy of Portales, NM, two sons; Eric Dowdy and Dante Dowdy both of Clovis, NM, mother; Laura Lee Matthews of Elberton, GA, two sisters; Terisa Martin of Overseas, Joyce Dowdy and her husband Dedrick of Colbert, GA two brothers; Michael Matthews of California, and Robbie Matthews and his wife Hazel of Piedmont, SC, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Janet is preceded in death by her father; Robert Matthews, son; Waymon Dowdy, Jr and great grandson; Waymon Dowdy.
