Janet Marie Duke was born on Nov. 1, 1944 in St. Louis, Illinois. She passed away peacefully on Nov. 5, 2024. She was a wonderful friend and teacher of many.
Her enthusiasm for life, optimism, and smile were always an encouragement to those around her.
She was a member of the Burnt Hickory Church of Christ in Marietta, GA where she taught children’s Bible classes for many years.
Janet graduated from Lipscomb University with a degree in Elementary Education and received a master’s degree in education from Georgia State University.
She retired from teaching at Hollydale Elementary school in Cobb County in 1997 after teaching for 30 years. Following retirement, she volunteered at Kennestone Hospital with photographs of new babies. She also enjoyed travelling to places in Europe, England, Alaska, Hawaii, and Israel.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Evaline and Hershel Duke, and her brother Jim Duke. She is survived by several cousins in Illinois and many dear friends.
A Memorial service will be held at West Cobb Funeral Home, 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, GA 30064 on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 11am.
