Janet Sue Troxel Foster, 87, of Bloomington passed away on Friday September 6, 2024 at the Monroe Hospital.
She was born July 26, 1937 to Wilson Otilla and Nanette Scott Troxel in Dayton, Ohio. She attended schools in Fairborn, Ohio and Riverside, California, was active in the youth and music ministries of the First Methodist Church of Riverside, California and in the student life of Riverside High School. She graduated from Riverside High School and the Riverside Community College, the latter with an Associate of Arts degree.
Jan married the love of her life Charles R. Foster in Riverside, California on September 1, 1962. They were happily married for sixty-two years. They have a daughter Anne Lynn and a son, Scott Thomas and two granddaughters Naomi and Susan Brown.
She first began working as an administrative assistant in the First Methodist Church of Riverside, before assuming a similar role with the Board of Missions of The Methodist Church in New York, and later in the school administration offices of the Worthington, Ohio public schools and Scarritt Graduate School in Nashville, Tennessee. She concluded her active career on the staff of the Peachtree United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
Jan retired in 2000 and moved with Charles to Salem, Oregon before moving to the Meadowood Retirement Community in
Bloomington, Indiana in 2017.
Music was a major interest throughout her life. She sang in school and church choirs from childhood until her retirement. In her later years she took up coloring which became a major focus of her time and attention. Her life was enriched through the years by circles of close friends in every community in which she lived.
Jan is survived by her husband, Charles R. "Chuck" Foster of Bloomington; her daughter, Anne L. Foster of Bloomington; her son, Scott T. Foster of Moab, Utah; two granddaughters, Naomi (Frankie Swift) Brown of Northampton, MA; Susan Brown of Cambridge, England; her nephew, Jeff (Jennie) Troxel of Peach Tree City, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Nannette Troxel; her brother, James (Nancy) Troxel; her nephew, Douglas Troxel.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, December 19, 2024 at the St Mark's United Methodist Church. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Memorial donations may be made to the Meadowood Retirement Community or St. Mark's United Methodist Church, both in
Bloomington, IN, to the First United Methodist Church in Salem, OR, or to the Charles R. Foster Endowment Fund, Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, GA 30322.
