Janet Alexander Goodson

WILMINGTON - Janet Gail Alexander Goodson, 81, died Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Brookdale of Wilmington.

She was born February 2, 1944, in Charlotte and was the daughter of the late Fred William and Aleise Smith Alexander. She graduated from High Point Central High School and spent most of her life in High Point before moving to Ocean Isle Beach after retirement. Janet enjoyed bowling, sewing, needlepoint, ceramics and especially enjoyed watching Carolina Tar Heel basketball. She was known for her delicious potato salad and an amazing "secret recipe" carrot cake. Janet and her husband, Greg, enjoyed an active social life and spending time with many friends at Ocean Isle Beach.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of fifty-six years, Gregory "Greg" Eugene Goodson, whom she married on February 14, 1965; a brother, Stephen Alexander; and a sister-in-law, Paula Alexander.

Janet is survived by two sons, William Gary Goodson of Wilmington and Michael Shane Goodson (Sabrina) of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Sierra Bailey (Nick), Holly Tolnay (Jordan); and Katelyn Hensley (Robert); five great-grandchildren Michael, Matthew, Mason, Madden and Isla; cousin, Carol Purser of Midland; and many special friends.

Graveside service celebrating Janet's life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery in High Point with Rev. Roger Carmichael officiating.

The family will speak with friends at the cemetery following the service on Thursday. A reception will follow at the home of her son, Shane and Sabrina Goodson, in Winston-Salem.
