Janet Mae Branchfield Lundberg, age 86, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at her home on February 5, 2026.
Janet was born on March 24, 1939, in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of Beryl and Clara (Younke) Branchfield. She graduated from Hudson High School. On December 22, 1958, she was united in marriage to Douglas Lundberg, a young soldier in the United States Army.
Those who knew Janet knew she was fun-loving, and full of heart. She took great pride in giving to others and quietly supported many nonprofit organizations over the years.
Family was the center of Janet's life. As the wife of a career serviceman, she learned to adapt quickly, supporting Doug through frequent moves and never questioning his service to our country or her role as an officer's wife. While living in Chicago, she bonded with her neighbors over their passion for cooking large family meals. Her favorite pastime became baking, and she was especially known for her beautiful birthday cakes shaped like a castle. Family vacations were often spent with extended family in Minnesota, and she helped preserve her own family's memories by creating heirloom-style scrapbooks decorated with lace and keepsakes. Janet also loved playing cribbage, bingo and watching soap operas.
Janet is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Douglas Lundberg; her children David (Sue) Lundberg, Dale (Laurie) Lundberg, and Dawn (Billy) Willard; nine grandchildren Amy (Tim), April (Joseph), Alex, Eric, Jay (Ingri), Timothy (Austin), Taylor (Josh), Nick (Daisy), and Alex; and her great-grandchildren Drew, Carson, Benjamin, Alessandro, Nathan, Tessa, and Cash. She is survived by her brother Bob. She was preceded in death by her siblings Bonnie, Beverly, and Denny.
Private funeral services were held at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, with burial at Lakeview Cemetery in Lakeland, Minnesota. Janet's grandsons were honored to serve as casket bearers and her granddaughters read poems that Janet had written.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Please direct donations to St. Croix County ADRC (Meals on Wheels). Friends and family are invited to share a favorite memory of Janet on her tribute page below.
