Janet Maguire Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beuschel Funeral Home on Dec. 16, 2025.
Janet Laurene (Ruelle) Maguire

December 19, 1945 – December 13, 2025

Janet L. Maguire, age 79, passed into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in Bingham Farms, Michigan, after sharing precious goodbyes with her loving family. Jan was born on December 19, 1945, in Farmington, Michigan, to Georga D. (MacDonald) Ruelle and David S. Ruelle. She was the second of six siblings: Barbara, Thomas (Kathy), Joseph (Diane), Paul (Dale), and Ann. On February 4,1967, she married the love of her life, Thomas J. Maguire, of Detroit, Michigan, at Gesu Church in Detroit.

Jan was a 1964 graduate of Farmington High School in Farmington, Michigan. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, intentional friend, caring nurse, and joyful clown. She found deep purpose in caring for others and bringing comfort to those in need, which made her a wonderful nurse and inspired her to become a clown in retirement, affectionately known as "Jan-O-rama."

Jan, along with Tom, enjoyed spending their winters as "snowbirds" at Lake Region Village in Haines City, Florida, where she actively pursued her interest in spreading happiness through community involvement and her active membership in Clowns of America.

Janet loved bringing joy and putting a smile on people's faces. She was known for her healing touch, often shared through a gentle back rub that everyone came to recognize and cherish, which brought comfort and calm to those around her. She loved her grandkids with her whole heart, giving them everything she could, especially her time and unconditional love. Janet loved singing, dancing, and laughing. She had the most creative way of finding joy in the simplest things. In her final days, Jan enjoyed spending time with her loved ones and anticipating the arrival of her first great grandchild.

Janet endured many hardships throughout her life, meeting each with remarkable strength and resilience.

She was a true example of grace in the face of suffering. Now, she rests in peace in Heaven, fully restored and reunited with the loved ones she missed so dearly.

Cherished memories of Jan will be kept by her loving children, Holly (Dave) Rotter, Brian Maguire, and Theresa Shehorn; and by her treasured grandchildren, Thomas Shehorn, Daniel (Talia) Rotter, Allison (Anthony) Shehorn, Michael Shehorn, Mitchell Rotter, and Marion (Jack) Wildman. Jan will be dearly missed by her Godchildren, Colleen Tambornino and Christal Hailo. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom; her daughter, Kathleen Maguire Hill; and her parents. She is welcomed home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Janet's family extends special thanks, on her behalf, to the caregivers at Arden Courts for their compassionate care. Additionally, the family is grateful to her loving niece, Suzanne Lieckfelt, for her unwavering support and dedication throughout Jan's journey.

The family will receive all family, friends, and anyone whose life was touched by Jan at Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue NW, Comstock Park, on Friday, December 19, 2025 - what would have been - Jan's 80th birthday - from 1:00p.m. to 2:00p.m., with a Funeral Service to follow at 2:00p.m. with Deacon Leo Ferguson from St. Anthony of Padua officiating. A luncheon will be held afterward. In honor of Jan's sparkling spirit, the family encourages all who attend to wear something bright, fun, or sparkly as a celebration of the sparkle she brought to everyone's life. Guests are also encouraged to bring fond memories to share with everyone.
