Janet Clare (Myers) McCaffree, 82, passed away December 16, 2024. Jan was born on July 4, 1942, to Howard C. and Virginia C. (Waddell) Myers in Crawfordsville, IN. Jan graduated from Winter Haven High School in Winter Haven, FL, in 1960. After high school, she attended Cottey College in Nevada, MO, where she graduated in 1962 with an associate's degree. While at Cottey College, she met William G. McCaffree. They were married on June 4, 1962 in Nevada, MO, and welcomed their son Mike in 1969.
She continued her education at Pittsburg State University and graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Jan was a member of The Research Club, P.E.O., and Thalias. She enjoyed traveling, attending plays and musicals, playing bridge, and reading. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her best days were spending time with family and friends, especially teaching her 6- and 7-year-old granddaughters to drive a golf cart with the game of school bus.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill, of the home; her son, Mike McCaffree and his wife Julia, of Nevada, MO; four granddaughters, Shelby Clark and her husband Austin, of Springfield, MO; Madilyn McCaffree of Fayetteville, AR; Caroline McCaffree of Chicago, IL; and Allison McCaffree of Nevada, MO; one grandson, Caleb Thorns and his wife Amy of Higginsville, MO; two great-grandsons, Maddox and Oliver Thorns; her brother, Kevin Myers of Torrance, CA; her sister-in-law, Sharon Shallenberger of Tualatin, OR; two nieces, Jill Kassell and her husband Matt, of Los Angeles, CA, and Anna Fay Shallenberger; two nephews, Kurt Shallenberger of Houston, TX, and William Shallenberger of Lake Oswego, OR; two great-nephews, Wyatt and Everett Kassell; and many close friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Father Jim Lile officiating.
Memorials are suggested in her name to Cottey College in c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
