Janet Rae McCormick, 81, of Dakota City, NE passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025, unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism at a local hospital.
Services are pending for the Spring of 2026.
Janet was born on September 20, 1944, in Wayne, NE, the daughter of Hans Clarence and Mary Anna (Henzler) Brogren. She graduated from Winside High School in 1962 and moved to Sioux City to attend two years at Nettleton College. Janet married Richard McCormick on August 10, 1968, in South Sioux City, NE, and the couple built a home, on an acreage outside of Dakota City. Dick preceded her in death on August 9, 2022.
Janet worked for Thorpe and Company Jewelers and Sue Bee Honey. She was involved with 4-H Extension Club when her children were little. Janet was also a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City, NE. She enjoyed making ceramics, square dancing, gardening, cooking, hosting family and friends, spending time on the river, but most of all spending quality time with her beloved family, children, and grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons: Mark McCormick and Joel McCormick of Dakota City, NE and daughter Sara (McCormick) Warnke and husband Anthony and their children Elyse and Paul, and great granddaughter Nora all of Custer, SD, and her brother Rod and wife Claire Brogren of Winside, NE.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” McCormick, her parents Hans and Mary Brogren, and her daughter Mary Beth.
