Janet Goeneva Moen, age 79, of Atwater, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, March 9, at the St. Cloud Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of Janet's life will be from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, at the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
Janet was born on July 31, 1945, in Mason City, Iowa, to Oscar and Gladys (Worth) Olson. In 1959, she moved to Minnesota with her mother and stepfather, Raymond Jackson. She attended Willmar Senior High School and graduated in 1964. On March 10,1966, she married the love of her life, Clifford “Pete” Moen in Watertown, South Dakota. The couple initially made their home in Willmar before settling in Belgrade, where Janet worked briefly as a waitress. However, her true calling was caring for her family, a role she embraced wholeheartedly. She found immense joy in the kitchen, where she lovingly prepared countless home cooked meals and sweet treats for those she cherished while living on the farm. In 1997, Janet and Clifford moved off the farm in Belgrade to Atwater, where she embraced her love for bowling as a member of a local league. She also loved crocheting, cheering on her favorite basketball and football teams, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy live country music. She was always up for a challenging game of cards with the grandchildren. Janet’s greatest joy in life was her family.
She leaves behind her four children: Roger (Wanda) Moen of New London; Julie (Nate Ellson) Moen of Atwater; Nita (Keith) Rohlik of Spicer; and Mary Grote of Harlan, IA. She was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren: Tommy (Kayla), Kyle (Amanda), Nicole (Josh), Brandon (Bryanna), Richard, Brian (Ellie), Namira (Hailey), Katie (Mathew), Nicholas (Brooke) and Josephine (Brent). Her legacy continues through her seven great grandchildren- Kiki, Kaydence, Karter, Kaycee, Chevelle, Cheyenne and Enzo- with two more little ones on the way. She will be deeply missed by many extended family members and dear friends.
Janet is now reunited with her beloved husband, Clifford, her parents and in-laws, and many cherished loved ones who passed before her. Her warmth, kindness and unwavering love for her family will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
