Janet Sallie Kesler Munson, 79, of Shady Spring, WV, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Born January 24, 1946 in Beckley, WV to the late Clarence Edwin & Sarah Bostick Kesler.
Janet and her husband Charles Dennis Munson, III have been together 66 years, they started dating in 9th grade at Beckley Junior High School and were married on June 4, 1966.
In addition to Charles, she is survived by daughters, Susan “Susie” Mitchem (Denny) of Beaver, WV, Katherine “Katy” McBride (Allen) of Daniels, WV, Rebecca “Becky” Burns (Ken) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Nathan, Chloe and Tripp Burns, Greg Jimison (Ashley), Tiffany Jimison Steffan (Shane), Kasey Mitchem; great-grandchildren, Lilly Jimison, Briar Steffan, Acre Steffan; brothers, Clark Kesler, Rio Rancho, NM, Larry (Kay) Kesler, Anderson, SC; twin sister, Judith Ragland, Beckley, WV; numerous nieces and nephews.
Janet was a 1963 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She attended Beckley Junior College and graduated from WV Wesleyan in 1968. While at Wesleyan she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. In 1963 she and her twin sister, Judy Ragland, were featured on the cover of family Weekly, a national Sunday supplement to newspapers, as “Miss Somebody from West Virginia isTwins”.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, international teachers’ society, past president of Beckley Junior Woman’s Club, past member of Celebration Choir at United Methodist Temple.
Janet taught school in Raleigh County for thirty years, having taught English and Social Studies at Liberty High School, Woodrow Wilson High School and Shady Spring High School. She was listed in “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday at United Methodist Temple with Dr. Steve Gedon officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park following cremation. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be her 3 sons-in-law, Denny Mitchem, Allen McBride, Ken Burns and her 3 grandsons, Greg Jimison, Nate Burns and Tripp Burns.
