Janet Murphy

Janet (Neville) Murphy passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at The Residence at Stafford, Manahawkin, New Jersey after a courageous battle with old age. Janet was born in New York City as the youngest child of Harry and Jane Neville and was raised and lived most of her life on Staten Island, New York. After graduating from Curtis High School, she worked for The New York Telephone Company for several years before retiring to raise her family with her beloved husband Charles, whom she married in 1957. In 2001, she and Charles moved permanently to Long Beach Island, New Jersey, after summering there for many years. Janet served as a Eucharistic Minister and attended daily Mass at Saint Francis Parish on LBI, which became the center of her spiritual and social life.
Janet was predeceased by Charles in 2009 after more than 50 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her brother Walter Neville and sisters and brothers-in law Helen and William Kelly and Suzanne and Louis Gianvito. She is survived by her children Lance Murphy and his wife Sasha of Kilei, Hawaii and Maura Murphy and her husband Michael Racette of Wellesley, Massachusetts, her granddaughter Caroline Murphy-Racette and fiancé Archie Watt, her sister-in-law Nancy Murphy, numerous nieces and nephews, including her flower girls Kerry Kelly and Jane Gianvito Matthews, and her good friend Georges Didiot. She also had many close friends – some for more than 80 years -- too many of whom predeceased her.
The family would like to thank the Residence at Stafford and Ascend Hospice for their support and kindness during Janet's final days.
All friends and family are welcome to a memorial service to be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 2nd St, Beach Haven, New Jersey on May 27, 2025, which would have been Janet's 92nd birthday. We will gather starting at 10:00 and celebrate mass at 11:00, followed by lunch at a location to be announced.
