Janet Gayle Pender was born on October 27, 1937 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Marvin and Lucille (Bryson) Skyberg. She grew up and attended school in Grand Forks, graduating from Grand Forks High School in 1955. During high school, she started her career in banking as a teller, and she continued after graduation.
Janet met Vaile Pender and the couple married on August 5, 1956 in East Grand Forks. To this union four children were born, Bradley V., Steven W., Daniel L., and Gayle A. The family moved to Devils Lake for a short time, later settling in Dickinson. Janet began working again as a teller at First National Bank, ending her banking career as Vice President. She then began bookkeeping for Dan Porter Motors, where she remained until her retirement following her 65th birthday.
Janet and Vaile enjoyed going south for the winter months. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, especially tending to her roses. She was an avid reader, and also took pleasure in following the stock market. Janet was quiet, yet very giving. She was a big supporter of Dickinson State University, the Dickinson Public Library, St. John Lutheran Church, and many other organizations. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Janet’s biggest joys were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.
Janet is survived by her children, Brad (Pat) Pender, Steven (Karen) Pender, Daniel (Danielle) Pender, and Gayle (Blaine) Dukart, all of Dickinson; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Duane Skyberg of Des Moines, IA and Dennis (Donna) Skyberg of Devils Lake; sisters, Gwen (Paul) Johnson of Stillwater, MN and Jacque (Rick) Senger of Devils Lake; and brother-in-law, Thomas Pender of Moreno Valley, CA.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Vaile (2007); parents, Marvin and Lucille; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Dick Driscoll; sister-in-law, Dora Skyberg; and great-granddaughter, Mara.
