Janet Laura Redford
Fulfilled Life of Love, Learning, and Adventure
March 17th 1953 – May 30th 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jan Redford, who departed this life on May 30th at the age of 72, leaving behind a legacy of love, inspiration, and purpose.
Jan lived a life rich with meaning, one filled with love, learning, and travel. She touched the lives of countless students and fellow educators through her compassion, kindness, and unwavering dedication to teaching. Her passion for helping others grow and succeed was a hallmark of her career and her life.
Driven by a deep sense of purpose, Jan lived each day with motivation and joy. She defined success not only by achievements, but by the positive impact she had on others. Her adventurous spirit took her across the globe, while her heart remained rooted in family, education, and her beloved Detroit Tigers and Red Wings.
Jan is survived by her loving husband, Mark Redford, her two children, Trevor Redford and Ashley Redford, and her siblings Larry Hiipakka, Karl Hiipakka, and Dale Hiipakka. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Grace Hiipakka, and her nephew, Jonathan Hiipakka.
A celebration of Jan's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to The Special Olympics of Michigan in Jan's memory, an organization that reflects her spirit of inclusion, empowerment, and joy.
Jan will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
