Janet Diane Blair Shepherd, a beacon of unwavering faith and selfless love, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, in her hometown of
Evansville, Indiana, after a courageous seven-year battle with glioblastoma. Born on February 4, 1947, to Floe (Lutz) and Noble Blair, Janet's spirited presence was a gift to all who knew her throughout her 77 years of life.
Janet's journey began in the heart of Evansville, where she was raised alongside her eight siblings, learning the values of family and hard work that would define her life. On November 16, 1971, she married the love of her life, William B. Shepherd, and together they embarked on a remarkable partnership that would last five decades. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children: Rhonda Harper, Liz Krack (Gary), and Bruce Shepherd (Amanda), who in turn filled Janet's life with the joy of six grandchildren: Jana Harper, Matthew, Ryan, and Austin Krack, and Connor Shepherd, and Elinor Shepherd. The family circle expanded with the arrival of four great-grandchildren: Parker and Emersyn Lord, Hudson Krack, and Blakely Krack, who all brought immense happiness to Janet's later years.
Janet's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she and William established and operated Apollo Liquors, a cornerstone of the local community. Their business flourished, expanding to ten locations over 50 years, a testament to Janet's dedication and business acumen. Despite her busy career, Janet's door was always open, and her heart always ready to support anyone in need.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence. A devout member of the Pentecostal faith, Janet lived her beliefs every day, exuding a faith-filled life that inspired those around her. Her church community was an extension of her family, and she served it with the same love and commitment she gave to her loved ones.
Janet's legacy is one of enduring strength and generosity. Even as she faced her own health challenges, she amazed her peers with her resilience and continued to put others before herself. Her selflessness was a guiding light, and her spirited nature ensured that laughter and joy were never far from those in her company.
Janet's life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Floe and Noble Blair, and Seven of her Eight siblings along with her beloved husband William on August 20 2021. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her loving children and their spouses, her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her last living sibling Ruth Jewell (Don), who will all miss her deeply.
Janet Diane Shepherd's story is one of a life well-lived, marked by unwavering faith, boundless love, and a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will remain with us, guiding and encouraging us in the same way she did throughout her remarkable life.
