Janet Stofa

Janet Stofa, 81, of Metuchen, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, surrounded by family at her home.
Born in Baltimore and raised in Dundalk, MD, she graduated from Parkville High in 1961 and then moved with her family. She met Andrew Stofa at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fords and married in 1966. Janet and Andy traveled through Europe, lived in Lakeland, FL, and Garfield, NJ, before settling in Metuchen in 1973. Janet was an Artist who was devoted to inspiring future artists as an Art Teacher at numerous elementary schools, including many years at Redeemer Lutheran School, Westfield. Trained as a portrait painter at Rutgers Newark, after raising her kids Janet went back to obtain her Bachelor's Degree from Douglass College of Rutgers University where she further honed her artistic skills. As part of her studies, she wrote the handbook for the lost wax Technique for their bronze sculpture classes at the Johnson Atelier in Hamilton.
Throughout her life, Janet saw art and beauty in everything - she created costumes and backdrops for musicals and planned art shows for herself and students and organized craft fairs and fundraisers as PTL president at Our Redeemer and Metuchen High School as music parent president.
The most important art Janet created was her family. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Andy, in 2013. She fiercely and perfectly loved her daughter, Stefeny Stofa- Krombholz and her husband, the Rev. James; her son, Andrew Paul and his wife Jaime, all of Metuchen; and most of all her grandchildren, Jakob, Luke, Madalyn, Abigail and Andrew. She is also survived by many loving relatives, including brother Roger and his wife Kathy; sister Edie; and brother Luke and his wife Joann.
The Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 10am at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 445 Old Post Road, Edison. The interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen.
The visitation will be on Monday from 4-8pm at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen.
