Janet M. Swanson, 94, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully Friday, October 3, 2025, at Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford. Janet was born July 25, 1931, in Iron Mountain, MI, daughter of the late Evald and Mary (Sculati) Chartre. After graduating high school, she married her high school sweetheart, James Swanson, on October 13, 1951. Janet is survived by her son, Allan (Carrie) Swanson; three daughters, Paula Wedger, Jean (Dale) Meyer, and Nancy (Doug) Ekvall; six grandchildren, Mike Meyer, Ben (Jacquelyn) Swanson, Jacob Swanson (girlfriend Kala), Ashley Wedger, and Zachary and Lauren Ekvall; two great-grandchildren; Emily and Lucas Swanson; a brother-in-law, Arthur (Darlene) Swanson; a sister-in-law, Lois Rochon; and many loving nieces and nephews. Along with her father, mother, and step-father, Harold Chartre, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jim; a brother, Gilbert Stohl; a son-in-law, Steve Wedger; brothers-in-law, Richard Swanson and Roger Rochon; and a sisters-in-law, Vera Swanson and Carolee Stohl Janet devoted her life to raising a family and as an empty nester had a few small fun part time jobs. Janet joined her husband Jim helping on Habitat for Humanity houses by painting and staining as well as providing baked goods for all the workers. She spent many years as a volunteer at the Immaculate Conception Church. Janet was a deeply religious person and in her later years, she took up painting and shared her talents and her faith in God with everyone by sending them hand crafted cards with a special note of encouragement. She was a life long knitter and created and donated many prayer shawls. She enjoyed a great game of smear, her Wednesday lunch group, hosting lunch parties for all her friends and loved sitting in the sunshine! Janet along with her husband Jim were true Packer fans. A special thank you to the many new friends she made during her time at Evergreen Assisted Living. She truly enjoyed her walks with her neighbors and evening gatherings. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am - 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 7th at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain with funeral services at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Mike Chenier will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Condolences to the family of Janet M.
