Janet A. Townsend, 78, of Frontenac, KS passed away on Thursday July 10, 2025 at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, KS.
Janet was born on October 1, 1946 to George Washington Townsend and Sara Jane (Barklow) Townsend in Portsmouth, OH. She later graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1965.
Janet overcame many adversities in her life, and was deeply committed to her faith. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Pittsburg, KS, where she participated in the 21st Century Sunday School class. She also took great pride in her role as Bus Coordinator at the church. She will be remembered as a warm person, and as someone who never knew a stranger.
Janet is survived by her brothers, George Lynn Townsend and Donald Townsend; her sister Donna Hawkins; 12 nieces and nephews; numerous church family members; and her friend and caregiver, Lisa Creamer.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents, and her sisters Mary Townsend and Kay Bough.
Janet's funeral service will be held at the First Christian Church in Pittsburg, KS on Tuesday, July 15 at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends at the church for visitation prior to the funeral at 9:00 am. Janet will be buried at the Fort Scott National Cemetery alongside her parents at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Pittsburg, KS.
