Janet Marie Wallace, age 80, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 2, 1943, in Owatonna, Minnesota, Janet lived a life full of adventure, warmth, and enduring love.
Raised in a military family, Janet's childhood was marked by frequent relocations across the United States and to Japan. As the fourth of five children, she adapted with resilience and grace. Her high school years were highlighted by her role as an enthusiastic cheerleader, reflecting her spirited and outgoing nature.
After raising her children, Janet pursued a degree at Arizona State University, earning her degree in Industrial Engineering. Notably, she was the only female in her graduating class. Her professional journey included a significant career as an engineer with the Salt River Project and a brief yet memorable stint owning a travel agency.
Creativity was a hallmark of Janet's life. She excelled in building, painting, sewing, and crafting, bringing to life every project she envisioned. Janet's love for the arts was matched by her passion for movies, and she delighted in watching films at AMC theaters.
Janet's greatest joy was her family. She found true love in her second marriage to Jim Wallace. They were the perfect match with their love for travel, dancing, cruising and enjoying the little things in life. She adored her children, Chuck Newsome and Kimberly (Kynan) Wynne, and cherished her role as a grandmother to Hunter Wynne, Alexa Wynne, Colton (Sydney) Wynne, Grayson (Shailee) Wynne, Delainey Wynne, and Skyler Mourn. Her great-grandchildren, Roman Wynne and Emmie Wynne, were a source of immense pride and happiness for her.
Janet's zest for life also led her to ballroom dancing with her husband, Jim, and eventually to her passion, line dancing. Janet's involvement in the line dancing community was a source of deep connection and joy, becoming a second family to her.
She is survived by her older brother, Terry (Susie) Steyer & her younger sister Sharon (Sherman) Forbes. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Wallace, her father Joseph George Steyer, her mother Phoebe Warburton Steyer, and her siblings Roberta (Barney) Sharp and Jim (Ketty) Steyer. Their memory lives on in the love and joy Janet shared throughout her life.
A celebration of Janet's life will be held at Las Palmas Grand in Mesa, AZ, on Friday, August 30th, at 4:00 PM.
Janet Marie Wallace will be deeply missed but forever remembered. May she rest in peace, dancing among the stars with her sweetheart Jim.
