Janette Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Evans Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, Inc. - Jefferson on Dec. 20, 2025.
Janette Hanson Smith (born Clara Janette Hanson) died December 19, 2025 in Greensboro, GA. Janette was born in Jefferson, GA to the late Inus Patmon Hanson and the late Mary Janette Harris Hanson.

Janette was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Rudolph Smith, daughter, Pamela Elaine Smith Carlson, and brothers, Harris O'Neal (Frances) Hanson, Jim Inus (Reba) Hanson.

Janette was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Jefferson, a church where her family were charter members. After moving to Greensboro, she attended the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, GA.

She married Grady Smith in 1949. They shared a life of adventure through his career as an architect, living in Georgia, California, Utah and Maryland. Janette built a career as a project manager with multiple companies, retiring from Verizon Wireless. Her project management skills served her well planning camping trips, vacations, and family moves.

Janette is survived by daughters, Peggy (Tom) Savchik in Troy, NY, Patricia (Eric) Hughes in Greensboro, GA; grandchildren, Carolyn (Dan) Ramsden in League City, TX, Taylor Hughes in Houston, TX, Mark Carlson in Gaithersburg, MD; great grandchildren, Joshua, Emilia and Zachary Ramsden in League City, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family is immensely grateful to Mary (Joann) Armour for her loyal assistance to Janette for the past years and to the gifted team at Peaceful Purpose Hospice of Georgia for their many kindnesses. Janette will be buried beside her husband in Bethany Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 117 S Main St, Greensboro, GA 30642.
