www.apfelfuneralhome.com Janice Lee Alexander was born April 29, 1942, in Grand Island to William and Roberta (Rhinehart) Hardenbrook. She attended elementary school at Hall County, District No. 3, Walnut Junior High, and graduated Class of 1960 from Grand Island Senior High.
Jan always had a keen eye for interior design and fashion. In the early 1970s, she began a career in household upholstery and draperies. "Upholstery by Jan" was always a warm shop within her home for 40-plus years. Clients of her work extended across Nebraska and beyond. Well-known for her talents and abilities to transform furniture and interior decor to exceptional levels, her creativity, imagination and execution were second to none.
Concerning her sons, she would often forgo motherly duties to "join in the excitement." Many times, inadvertently she was involved in projects and mayhem ranging from model planes/rockets, firearms, scouting, motor sports, hot air ballooning and amateur fireworks manufacture. Although instrumentally raising two sons single-handedly, her courage to allow learning and exploration, fostered a drive for education and inspiration.
Family and friends were most important to Jan. Large family gatherings were not uncommon at her home. This always included raucous laughter and sharing in the fun. Good food and great company would always happen at Jan's house.
Her fondness for vehicles began at an early age, and she was often described as a spirited driver. Later, this focused on motorcycles and riding. She was an active member of local motorcycle clubs and the Christian Motorcycle Association. She attended many rides and rallies, including several rides to Dallas to see her son. Her fondness for fast cars and loud bikes could only be eclipsed by her love toward men named Bob.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Scott Alexander and Renae Baker; sister and brother-in-law, LeeAnn and Todd Kucera; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Gerri Kelley, Doug and Jackie Hardenbrook and Alan and Carol Hardenbrook.
She was preceded in death by her son, Troy Alexander; parents; sisters, Cheeri Hardenbrook and Marilyn Harders; brother, Larry Seufert; and aunt and uncle, Pearl and Charles Seufert.
