Janice Taylor Barker, affectionately known as Nana by her adoring grandchildren, was born on December 8, 1943, in Craig County, Virginia, and peacefully passed away on November 21, 2023, in Salem, Virginia.
She was a devoted member of Mountain Pass Baptist Church, contributing her musical talents by playing the piano and singing in the choir. Janice cherished her grandchildren, Kinley and Holden, and found joy in creating beautiful pieces through her avid love for crocheting and needlepoint, skills she self-taught.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mertha Taylor; sisters, Mary Morgan and Oraleen Patterson; brothers, Harvey Taylor and Buford Taylor; father-in-law, Owen Barker; and sister-in-law, Susan Barker.
Left to carry on her legacy are her loving husband of 59 years, Roger Barker; sons, Christopher Barker and Todd Barker (Erica); mother-in-law, Alice Barker; brother-in-law, Bobby Barker (Wanda); sister-in-law, Joann St. Clair (Mickey); numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Carol Conway; special nieces, Karen Davidson and Gloria Moran; and many wonderful cousins.
The family would also like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care during this time.
A celebration of Janice's life will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Mountain Pass Baptist Church. Visitation will take place from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., with Pastor Jack Richards officiating.
