Janice D. Brown, 83, of Stockton, MN passed away on December 1, 2023. She was born on May 20, 1940 in Rushford, MN. Janice was the dearly-loved daughter of Lloyd and Helen (Engrav) Lerol. She was the life-long partner and wife to the love of her life, Edward Lee Brown, whom she married on October 25, 1958 at the Rushford Lutheran Church.
Janice was the Matriarch of her family. Family and Friends gathered at Janice's for all the Holidays and impromptu parties and card parties. Janice and her beloved Eddie enjoyed life to the fullest. They enjoyed motorcycling throughout their marriage making several trips to Sturgis.
Janice, Eddie, and their family enjoyed camping with family and friends throughout the Mississippi River Valley. The memories they built were most important and family and friends continue to talk about the trips even today. Janice was Mom and friend too many. Many of her children's friends considered Janice and Eddie their parents, spending their time with them. Janice had a life- long pen pal, Christina, in Sweden that she kept in contact with until her death. Janice was a role model to her many friends and family. She was independent and enjoyed an adventure and traveled America and many countries. Enjoying bus trips to Florida, cruises in Europe and the Caribbean, and a trip to her homeland of Norway. On her trip to Norway, Janice was able to meet Christina and her husband in Oslo.
Janice was a woman of strong faith and was dedicated to her Central Lutheran church family, contributing to the Lutheran community in both Rushford and Winona. She participated in creating many quilts for her church family. Janice retired as the Head Cook for the Winona Middle School. She loved her school family and made life-long friends with The Lunch Ladies.
Janice will be deeply missed by her surviving children; Steve (Teresa) Brown, Rick (Nancy) Brown, Vicki (Brian) McDonald; grandchildren, Ashley (Elijah) Wood, Megan (Zachary Kniseley) Brown, Kaitlin (Nicholas) Casey, Rachel Brown, Kory McDonald, Kyle (Fiancee Zoe Krageschmidt) McDonald; great grandchildren, Sophia Kniseley, Adam Kniseley, Emma Casey, and Olivia Casey; sister, Bonnie (Ken) Torgerud; sister-in-law, Mavis Lerol; and brother-in-law, Dave Johnson.
Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; brother, Kenny Lerol; and sister, Patty Johnson.
A celebration of life will be on Thursday December 7, 2023 at Central Lutheran Church in Winona. A visitation will begin at 10 am with the church service at 11 am. Janice will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery in Stockton, Minnesota.
