Janice was the daughter of William Manford Nielsen and Dorothy Lorraine (Rodger) Nielsen, and she was preceded in death by her loving parents and her devoted husband, Thomas William Brown, III. Janice and Thomas were married on June 14, 1963, in Monterey, Mexico, embarking on a journey that would take them and their family across the country.
A proud mother, Janice is survived by three children: Stacey Bauer, Dean Brown, and Stephanie Hermis, who is married to Joey. Her legacy also lives on through her two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom affectionately called her "Golden Grahams." She is further survived by her brother, William Nielsen, and his wife Grace, her sister Lori Nielsen, and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her vibrant spirit.
Throughout her life, Janice was known for her unwavering love and compassion. She was always polite and kind to everyone she met, making friends wherever she went. A devoted fan of the Houston Astros, she never missed a game, boldly wearing her team's colors and cheering with her whole heart. Her favorite pastimes included watching "The Golden Girls" and "Everyone Loves Raymond," as well as indulging in her love for music-Elvis Presley and Brooks and Dunn were her favorites.
Janice's passion for life extended to her hobbies. She was an accomplished seamstress, avid knitter, and skilled cross-stitcher, often creating beautiful pieces for her family. Her culinary talents shone in the kitchen, where she delighted her loved ones with delicious meals. Gardening was another of her loves, as she cultivated her own little slice of paradise. This nurturing spirit also extended to her beloved dogs-Heidi, Daisy, and Autumn-along with her grand dog Gabby, who brought her immense joy.
Janice's journey led her to many places, including Cerrito, California; Ruston, Louisiana; Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Little Rock, Arkansas, among others, due to her husband's career as a Naval Pilot. However,
Katy, Texas, was her home for the past 50 years, where she built a life filled with love and laughter surrounded by her family.
Janice worked for Marine and Petroleum before retiring and later took on roles at Ross and Garden Ridge, always bringing her cheerful and positive attitude to her work. Her community involvement and kind-hearted nature made her a beloved figure among her neighbors and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 12:00 PM in Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel, where family and friends are invited to celebrate Janice's remarkable life and the many memories she shared with those she loved.
Janice Anne Nielsen Brown will be remembered not only for her loving spirit and endless compassion but also for the joyful moments she created for her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and warm the hearts of all who knew her. Rest in peace, dear Janice; you will be dearly missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
