Janice (Jan) Carlson of Holcomb, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Monday March 16, 2026 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Illinois. Jan was born to Ernie and Martha (Elliot) Flick in Oregon, IL on May 20, 1938. On September 6, 1958, she married Gene Carlson and had three sons: Mark Carlson of Glendale, AZ, Brett (Debi) Carlson of Chana, IL, and Brad Carlson of Lebanon, MO.
At the age of 82, Jan became a grandma to Layla which added an extra sparkle to her eye. She was also blessed with many bonus grandchildren, great grandchildren and Ethal, her spoiled kitty.
Jan graduated Oregon HS in 1955 and went to Rockford Memorial School of Nursing graduating in 1958. She worked at Rochelle Manor, Rockford Memorial Hospital on the surgical floor and ended her career as "Ask A Nurse" which she loved. Jan and Gene enjoyed their retirement in Arizona during the winter months for several years. She loved to spend time with her family, read, sew, crochet and play slot machines whenever she had the chance. Jan loved to talk and could carry on a conversation with anyone she would meet. She will be missed by many.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene and her parents.
Unger-Horner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle is assisting the family with her cremation rites. There will be no services.
