Janice Marie Bias Carnal, beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord on January 31, 2026, at the age of 93.
She was born on July 17, 1932, in Harts, West Virginia, to the late Dewey O. and Lora (Osburn) Bias. As the oldest daughter of ten children, Janice naturally became the second mother to her family early in life, leading with love, kindness and a servant's heart during her lifetime.
Janice was the devoted wife of Daniel Benton Carnal, with whom she shared a life of love, faith, and partnership. Together they raised two sons who were the light of her life: William Carnal (Kenner) and Robert Carnal (Ponchatoula).
Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Emma Kostur and Keelan Carnal, and her adored great-grandchildren, J, Eli, and Reid Kostur, of Sugar Land, Texas.
She is survived by her loving siblings Sandra Carroll, Diana Heidenreich, Sherry Binkert, Charles Bias, and Ronnie Bias, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family who were blessed by her generous love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sisters, Sarah Wiley, Willa Browning, Georgia Williamson, and Sue Albright; and her brothers Dallas T. Bias, Donald Bias, and Robert M. Bias.
Janice was a caregiver in the truest sense to her family, her friends, and anyone God placed in her path. Her faith was central to her life, and she was deeply involved in First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula, where she served faithfully for many years. She had a special ministry of presence, visiting those who were homebound and ill offering prayer, and the comfort of God's Word.
Janice was known for her wonderful meals at family gatherings which she prepared with love and shared with joy. She was a gifted quilter, oil painter, and crafter, delighting in creating beautiful pieces that she generously gave to friends and family. Her home was always welcoming, her table always open, and her heart always ready to serve.
Throughout her life, Janice traveled the world alongside her husband in support of his career, never meeting a stranger. Whether living in Chile, Venezuela, Romania, or closer to home, she shared her warmth, generosity, and faith freely with others. In 1979, she and Daniel settled in Ponchatoula, where she lovingly made her home for the past 47 years, building a life rich in relationships, service, and love.
Janice lived a truly full life of love, marked by faith, devotion, and selfless care for others. We rejoice in the promise that she has been welcomed into Heaven, reunited with loved ones gone before her, and now rests in eternal peace in the presence of her Savior.
Her life was a testimony and her love remains in all of the individuals she touched across her life.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.
