Janice (Jan) M. Marker, 84, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed peacefully on February 6, 2026.
Jan was born on March 25, 1941, in Portsmouth, Iowa, to Henry and Cecelia Zimmerman. She grew up in Portsmouth, Iowa, where her family owned and operated the Zimmerman Cafe for many years. She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Portsmouth.
Jan married Donald (Donny) Marker on February 14, 1976. The couple lived in Stuart, Iowa for several years, where Jan worked at the local library. In 1989, they moved to Urbandale, Iowa. She later worked in the bakery at the Urbandale Hy-Vee.
Jan enjoyed quilting and crocheting, and she often donated handmade throws to the local DAV. Her generous spirit could be felt in every piece she created.
Jan is survived by her husband of 49 years, Donny Marker of Urbandale, Iowa; sister Carolyn Mortensen of Naples, Florida; sons Mark Wyett of Waukee, Iowa and Mike Wyett of Iron City, Tennessee; step-sons Steve Marker of Earlham, Iowa and Todd Marker of Urbandale, Iowa; grandson Cameron Wyett of Oak Harbor, Washington; and step-grandson Austin Marker of Urbandale, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Harold Thielen, Eldred Zimmerman, Jack Thielen, Neil "Tub" Zimmerman, Richard Zimmerman, Velma Ring, and Ella Mae Schaben.
As Jan requested, no services will be held.
To honor Jan's memory, donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Her family invites those who knew her to hold her memory with gratitude and to remember the simple kindness she shared throughout her life.
