Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fisher Funeral Home - Denison on Feb. 13, 2026.
Janice Marie (Sallee) Marshall was born June 23rd, 1942 to Clarence Marvin (Mutt) Sallee and Lucretia Adalie (O'Donley) Sallee, in
Utica, Oklahoma. She was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus Thursday, February 12th.
Janice attended schools in Blue, Utica, and Savannah, OK before graduating from Mead High School in 1960. Not only was she a state qualifying track runner but also played point guard for the conference winning basketball team in Mead. She attended Southeastern Oklahoma State College for 2 years then a business course before working for Hale-Hasell in
Durant, OK and then
Denison, TX.
Janice married Talmage Henry Marshall at First Baptist Church in Mead on February 23rd, 1963. They were married for 60 years until Talmage's passing. After marrying, Janice worked for the Katy Railroad in the Griffin building on Main Street until the railroad closed its doors. She then worked at Cigna Insurance in Sherman for 10 years before retiring….but she didn't stop then.
Janice and Talmage had 4 children that were the center of her world. She taught them so many things and loved doing crafty and artistic activities with them as they grew up. While raising her children with love, a wicked sense of humor, and Hot Wheel racetrack strips, Janice also found time to teach Sunday School, Children's Church and Vacation Bible School at Parkside Baptist Church in Denison for over 40 years.
Never one to sit still, Janice took up decorative painting in the mid-eighties and convinced her daughters to join her. Janice, Kay, and Elaine traveled all over the country to tole painting conventions. Janice was very active in the Texoma Wildflowers painting group until Alzheimer's robbed her of the ability to paint.
After retiring from their jobs, Janice & Talmage enjoyed going to car shows around the country. They were members of Kustom Kemps car club where Mom enjoyed being the "hostess" at their local car show at Loy Lake. She especially enjoyed giving little gifts and homemade snacks to Carrie Underwood when she was the musical entertainment, long before American Idol made Carrie a world-wide superstar.
A health nut most of her adult life, Janice was always cooking and sharing recipes for healthy living, exercising on her balance ball, and walking miles daily in her hilly neighborhood.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play sports like she did with her own children. As her grandkids became parents, she loved seeing the great-grands when she could, even when she battled the memory loss.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband Talmage, her parents, her stillborn sister, Helen Kay Sallee, her in-laws Henry & Helen Marshall, sister-in-law Shirley Weaver and her husband Billy Jack Weaver, her niece Cheryl Weaver, along with numerous beloved aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her children- Mark Marshall and wife Beth of
Sanger, TX, Kay Hugghins and husband Jim of Alto, New Mexico, Elaine Lewandowski and husband Steve of Hazelwood, Missouri, Jason Marshall and wife Micci of Omaha, Nebraska, along with grandchildren Melissa Whitlock and husband Justin, Chase Schindler and wife Stephanie, Ashli Marshall, Ken Lorensen, Joey Lewandowski, AP Lewandowski and wife Loren, Jacob Marshall, Payton Holmes and husband Jesse, Luke Marshall, as well as 11 great-grandchildren, her brother Butch Sallee and wife Jackie of
Goldsboro, NC, 3 nieces, and several cousins.
Janice was loved by all that knew her and we are so very thankful she never lost her love for the Lord, singing hymns while in church, and her sharp wit.
Services for Janice will be Saturday, February 21st at Parkside Baptist Church. Visitation begins at 10:00am, followed by the service at 11:00am, then burial at Cedarlawn Cemetery in
Sherman, TX.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
