Janice Mae (Waite) Neigel, age 82, passed away Wednesday October 4, 2023.
Janice was born on October 18, 1940, to her parents Clarence and Lillian (Howard) Waite in Colchester, Connecticut. She graduated from Bacon Academy in 1958. After finishing school, she worked as a waitress in Groton, CT where she met her husband, Jack Neigel. Jack and Janice were united in marriage in January of 1962 in New London, CT, to this union three children were born: Jack Jr, Jacquelyn, and James. Janice and Jack made their home in Waterford, CT before moving to Norwich, CT where they opened three gas stations and later a welding and radiator repair shop.
In May of 1974, the family moved to Fergus Falls, MN where Janice and Jack continued their business, Jack’s Radiator and Welding. In 1975 they started to raise Registered Quarter Horses. In 1980 Janice went to work as a ward clerk at Lake Region Hospital and stayed there until her retirement in 2005. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Lake Region Clinic and at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School as well as the Lions Club.
Janice enjoyed spending her free time gardening, knitting, crocheting, helping Jim and Lori at the gun shows and helping others in need. Most importantly, Janice loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Jack Neigel; her mother and father, sister Shirley, step-son Dennis Neigel and step-grandsons Matthew O’Brien and Stephen Verbeck.
She is survived by her children, Jack Neigel Jr., Jacquelyn (Wayne) Mortenson, James (Lori) Neigel; Step-children, Linda Verbeck, and Debbie O’Brien and their families; five grandchildren, Parker and Anthony Neigel, Brandon (Jennifer) Neigel, Tristin Stavnes, and Jennifer Neigel; Step-grandchildren Christine and Briget Mortenson; great-grand daughter Ava; two sisters Natalie and Rosemary; many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends Doug and Virginia Nelson.
Memorials are preferred to Knute-Nelson Hospice and Riverside Lions Club.
Funeral to be held at 11 AM on October 20th, 2023, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be at St. Otto’s Catholic Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN.
