Janice Oster Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stith Funeral Home of Danville on Apr. 13, 2025.
Janice Wooddell Oster, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, at the age of 91 in Danville, KY. Born in Mansfield, OH, to the late Samuel and Mabel McMullen. Janice spent her formative years in a nurturing environment that instilled in her a strong work ethic and a deep compassion for others. She graduated from Madison High School in 1951 and went on to pursue her dreams in the medical field, earning an Associate's Degree and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Richard Joseph Oster.
For many years, Janice dedicated her life to caring for others as a valued member of Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life; she also shared her passion for community involvement by serving as a Girl Scout Leader and a Water Safety Instructor (WSI). Her active role in the Kentucky Nursing Association and her recognition as a Kentucky Colonel reflected her community spirit and indelible impact on those around her.
Janice is survived by her loving children, Jeffery (Anna) Oster, James Oster, Linda (Mark) Sharp, and Sharon Oster; her grandchildren Christopher Joseph (Justeen) Oster, Matthew Samuel Richard Oster, Joshua Logan Sharp, Jonathon Noah Sharp, and Jacob Taylor Sharp; and great-grandchildren Rowan Smoke Oster and Aera Rain Oster, along with cherished friends.
The funeral service to honor her memory and celebrate her life will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 17, 2025, with visitation prior from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville, with Sean Gladding officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Oster, Matthew Oster, Josh Sharp, Johnny Sharp, Jacob Sharp, and James Oster. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave McMullen, Mark Sharp, Ken McMullen, Sue Ayres, Patrick Ayres, Sam McMullen, and Andy McMullen. Burial will be with her husband in Bellevue Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Danville-Boyle County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her exceptional kindness and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
