Wanda Garrett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home on Jan. 28, 2026.
Mrs. Wanda Lea Rison Garrett, 72, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Wanda was born on March 28, 1953, in Winchester, Kentucky and was raised from an early age in Richmond where she attended and graduated from Madison Central High School. After high school, Wanda joined and served in the US Army and returned to Richmond where she worked various jobs and raised her family. Working crossword puzzles, watching Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith or any game show on TV was often how you could find her passing time, but her favorite thing to do was spend time with her children and grandchildren. Wanda had a smile that could light up the room, but a tongue that could cut you like a razor – she was a selfless and caring lady who will be missed.

Survivors include: her former husband and constant companion, Michael Garrett; her children, Antonie "Twan" Garrett (Sonia) & Sandra Michelle Nicholas; her grandchildren, Treshon Garrett, Demar Garrett, Zaylee Garrett, Jennifer Reed, Mykee Mitchell, and Shovae Mitchell; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry Rison; three sisters, Sue Conner, Mary Hall & Ruth McIntosh; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Hester Perry Rison, her brother, Donnie Rison and one sister, Hallie McIntosh.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to help with final expenses can be made to the funeral home.

Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements.
