“Janice Claire Paterna passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by love and the memories of a life well lived. She found joy in calling both South Boston and Cape Cod home.Born on March 22, 1945, Janice was the cherished daughter of the late Josephine and Joseph Paterna. She was a devoted sister to Mary Flohr and Salvatore Paterna, and a treasured aunt to her seven nieces and nephews and thirteen grand-nieces and nephews — each of whom meant the world to her.Janice spent much of her career with the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, a job she truly loved and proudly talked about for the rest of her life. She had a gift for remembering the details that mattered, and she loved telling stories that brought the past to life and kept family memories close. She will be remembered for her deep kindness, selflessness, quiet strength, and generosity. Janice always put others first and found joy in simply being there for the people she loved. Living between South Boston and Cape Cod brought her comfort and happiness — she held both places close to her heart.A celebration of Janice’s life will be planned and shared at a later date. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no wake or formal funeral service. She gave so much of herself to the people she loved, and her presence will be deeply missed.”
